Lilia’s Dental Care
🦷 My Dental History
Dental care has been an uphill battle my whole life. When I was a child, I was able to get care through my father’s insurance, that’s when I had my wisdom teeth surgically removed, multiple cavities filled, and root canals with crowns. I have had a long, traumatic and extensive past of dental procedures. Unfortunately, many of those fillings later failed, turning into root canals and, in some cases, extractions. Now I’m an adult living with disabilities & chronic illness on state medical & dental insurance. Places that my insurance covers cannot see me in time nor do they even offer the complex care I need. I can’t go to dental schools, and there are not any places that do sliding scales that can get me in soon enough or even have the care I need. The ONE complex care hospital dentist I am supposed to see that is covered by insurance cannot even schedule my appointment yet bc their new patient appts are 4-5 months booked out then operating rooms are 2-3 years booked out.
• All 4 of my wisdom teeth had to be surgically removed before they even broke the surface, because there was absolutely no space in my mouth and causing pressure & pain.
• I’ve had upwards of 15+ fillings / filling revisions since childhood including my adult teeth, most of which were on molars. Over time, many of those fillings failed, leading to 7 molar root canals.
• One of those root-canal teeth eventually broke apart despite treatment and right now the only part left is the “root” leaving a gap in between two molars.
• I’ve lost 3 bottom molars to extractions, which we had to pay for completely out of pocket. These teeth were too far gone to save & causing immense pain. I can’t remember how many of these were root canals / fillings but all of my molars have had some sort of work on them.
• I wasn’t able to get grafts or replacements after my extractions, leaving gaps that make chewing difficult and put extra strain on my other teeth.
• Most of my remaining molars are either filled, root-canaled, broken, cracked, or badly decayed.
• At my last visit which was quite awhile ago, I was told I’d need 2 more extractions and 1 root canal though one of those teeth may already be too far gone.
Because of my EDS, chronic illness, and lifelong malnutrition, my teeth break down much faster than average. Even with all the dental work I’ve already endured fillings, root canals, extractions, surgeries my mouth is still falling apart.
💔 Why This Is Urgent
Most of my chewing teeth are either gone, broken, or rebuilt with (now decaying) root canals. Each delay in treatment means I risk losing more. For me, dental infections aren’t just painful they’re dangerous. Being immunocompromised means an untreated infection could spread quickly and threaten my overall health. Especially because I have a central line I absolutely cannot risk any sort of infection that could spread to my bloodstream.
On top of that, because most of the failing teeth are molars, my situation doesn’t always look “serious” to people at first glance. Visible front teeth tend to get taken more seriously, but molars are just as essential: they’re what I need to chew, eat, and get the nutrition my body desperately needs. Losing them has already made eating extremely difficult and worsens my quality of life. Dental care isn’t just about a smile it’s about being able to chew, live without teeth pain, and protect my health.
💜 What I Need Right Now
UPDATE!!!!! THIS HAS BEEN COVERED NOW!! ⬇️
• Initial dental exam & x-rays – $330 (confirmed cost)
This appointment will give me updated scans, confirm which teeth can still be saved, and provide an official treatment plan. Without it, I can’t move forward with any of the urgent care I need.
Once I have this appointment, I’ll update with the exact treatment plan and costs so everyone can see clearly where their support is going.
all funds moving forwards will continue to go towards dental procedures & care! Updates will be made when I get pricing and a plan :)
🦷 Why This Dental Office
We already have a dentist chosen, and this is the only office nearby that can provide the level of care I need at the lowest cost available, and get me in this year. They are able to handle complex health & dental all in one place which is essential for me given my health conditions and mobility challenges.
I’m not looking for suggestions about other dentists or clinics we’ve already called around, researched, and confirmed that this is the most affordable and accessible option for me. What I need now is simply the support to afford the care itself, starting with the $330 exam and x-rays.
Why Your Help Matters
I’ve already been through so much with my teeth :’) countless fillings, 7 root canals, 3 extractions and I’ve done everything possible to save my teeth. But I can’t keep up with the financial burden on top of my other medical needs.
Every dollar truly helps bring me closer to eating without pain again, preventing more tooth loss, and protecting my overall health.
Thank you so much for reading, sharing, and supporting me. 💜
I know I'm not the only one in need, but this is my situation. If you can help, thank you. If you can't, sharing or kind words mean just as much.
